Happy Birthday Mac

I was pleasantly surprised to see Apple, a company that rarely thinks much of the past, celebrate the Mac's thirtieth birthday. I vividly remember the first time I sat at a Mac. It was my first exposure to a true graphical user operating system and it completely blew my mind. Strangely, the thing I think I liked most about it was the control panel. After logging so much time at the command line the idea that I could click and drag things was amazing. I also liked the whimsy of the first Mac. For instance the tortoise and the hare in click speed control panel.

That first time I sat at a Mac was one of the most delightful geek moments of my life, matched only by the first time I got my hands on an iPhone and, later, an iPad.
